Video monitoring of periodical poling process is demonstrated in LiNbO/sub 3/ using transparent liquid electrodes. The pulse-to-pulse poling is optically monitored with birefringence change under the crossed polarizers. The technique is applied to device fabrication of wavelength converters for dense wavelength-division-multiplexed optical communication.
