Network management includes the functions necessary to plan, implement, operate, and maintain a network. Advanced train control system (ATCS) specifications define how the communication network is to operate, but network management is left to the discretion of individual railroads and suppliers. Network management functions needed to support ATCS are described. Network management for ATCS consists of configuration management, fault management, performance management, accounting management, and security management.<>
