With the objective of evaluating the electrical and thermal systems of an electric ship earlier in the conceptual design phase, the simulation tool Smart Ship System Design (S3D) has been developed. A set-based design approach is implemented, in which the ship is exercised for a set of missions. This paper proposes a methodology to be implemented in S3D to add a level of supervisory control for the thermal discipline, capable of choosing the best plant configuration given the demands of the required cooling for the other disciplines such as the electrical and mechanical systems.
