IMA is driving the requirement for highly robust, multi-level file system services. An IMA file system must first be developed for the stringent DO-178B Level A safety standard and meet the ARINC 653 APEX specification for portability at the application programmer’s interface. The file system must also be fault tolerant, maintaining file system metadata and data integrity even after a sudden power loss. To meet the requirement for safe, multi-level concurrent access, an IMA file system must provide storage space and operational service guarantees for partitions. This paper will provide an overview of IMA file system architecture and describe an implementation meeting these IMA requirements.
