In this paper, we present the results of the first, to the best of our knowledge, experimental demonstration of a LiNbO/sub 3/ Mach Zehnder interferometric traveling-wave modulator where quasi-phase-matching is achieved by domain, rather than electrode, reversals. This approach is free from the deficiencies of electrode reversals while having the same advantages.
