Today many traffic information centers are collecting road traffic data from various sensors and require enhanced analytic processing to transform raw data into traffic information. One of the most effective ways is to visualize traffic information in a timeline view for better understanding the traffic behaviors. In this paper, we present TiQ, which is a timline query processing system over road traffic data. The TiQ system is based on (1) a formal model that captures traffic congestion events from raw data, (2) a timeline query index (TQ-index) which exploits spatial and temporal features of traffic data, and (3) efficient query evaluating algorithms for a timeline query. We demonstrate the use of TiQ system and its effectiveness and efficiency by using real traffic datasets from a Busan Intelligent Transport System (ITS) center.
