The similarity degree of hand-written characters in engineering drawings is analyzed. On the basis of the results, a hierarchical neural network is proposed for recognizing hand-written characters in engineering drawings. In a hierarchical neural network the memorizing and recognizing procedure is distributed into several subnetworks. Experimental results are also given.
