The subject of this article is the problem of determining the terrain passability coefficient based on the elementary properties of selected military vehicles. The article presents an original approach that links vehicle mobility characteristics to the value of the passability coefficient, considering selected criteria involved in terrain assessment. The results illustrate how the generalized approach presented in normative documents leads to either overestimation or underestimation of a vehicle’s terrain-crossing capabilities. Furthermore, as a significant element of the study, a method for grouping vehicles with similar mobility characteristics is proposed using Pearson’s correlation coefficient to improve the accuracy of the research findings.
