Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) are becoming popular in both commerce and private usage. Drone accidents have become one of the major concerns of the public. Behaviors of unexperienced UAV pilots affects the navigation safety of the UAV. The purpose of this study was to investigate the frequency to access information required to operate the UAV and the performance of the participants who operated the UAV. We recruited 20 adults as human participant. These adults had no prior experience in operating an UAV. Upon receiving the training of UAV operation, the participants navigated an UAV for trials under three scenarios. We analyzed the frequency of checking the flight information on the monitor and the mission completion time. The results of the analysis of variance (ANOVA) indicated that sex was a significant factor affecting behaviors in examining the data on the displayer on the monitor during the trials. The participants who read the information on the monitor more often experienced less difficulty in the trials of the flights. Our results are helpful in the training of the UAV pilots and the design of human-machine system in UAV operation considering the safety of the system.
