There has been a rapid growth in the transport industry in the recent past. Owing to the aggregator-based model being followed currently, the transport companies have little control over the driving pattern of the driver which may be a decisive factor in the customer satisfaction and security of the goods that are being carried in the vehicles. Hence an urgent need for the development of a system that could detect the driving pattern is rapidly increasing. A low-cost shock data logger is designed in this literature using a low-cost accelerometer available. The proof of concept is carried out using a laboratory available accelerometer and a PC HyperTerminal. Results indicate the continuous monitoring of the driving pattern is possible and shock data can be recorded up to 10 g.
