In conclusion, we have developed a novel method of combining two binary phase hologram (BPH)'s in order to increase diffraction efficiency and SNR by suppressing the unwanted diffraction orders effectively. The combined binary phase hologram (CBPH) acts as a multi-level phase hologram, but the fabrication of CBPH is much easier than multi-level phase hologram. Further research on applications of CBPH to programmable optical interconnection and image processing in conjunction with spatial light modulators (SLM) is in progress in our laboratory.
