The implementation of Context Aware environments is one of the main requirements for the adoption of Smart Cities and Smart Regions. In this sense, multiple systems inter-relate in order to provide true user-system interaction, optimizing resource usage as well as improving quality of life and user participation within the region. One of the most relevant elements in this context is transportation, with the advent of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) in order to optimize traffic routes, minimize energy consumption/pollution and improve quality of experience for users in multi-modal transportation platforms. In this presentation we will address challenges and advances in the implementation of Context Aware Vehicular environments, as an additional player in future Internet of Things scenarios.
