In this poster, we propose a joint radar and communication waveform that modulates the widely adopted frequency modulated continuous waveform (FMCW) radar waveform with multi-carrier modulation. We introduce the modulation/demodulation scheme and radar processing and discuss potential challenges for such dual function waveform in a realistic environment. Compared with existing proposals of using regular OFDM waveform as joint radar and communication waveform, the proposed multi-carrier modulated FMCW decouples the radar bandwidth from the communication bandwidth, and may achieve automotive radar specification with less requirement on analog-digital conversion and baseband processing bandwidths.
