Elderly drivers tend to perform poorly in focusing their attention during driving. They might overlook stop signs, and the percentage of right-turn accidents at intersections is higher compared to that of young drivers. To improve their attention and concentration, we propose “point and calling method” for elderly driving. By analyzing autonomous nervous system and brain activity using near infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) and visual analog scale (VAS), we found the possibilities that the point and calling method helps to raise elderly drivers' alertness.
