A photonic transmitter using millimeter wave (MMW) photonic techniques is proposed. As for the MMW generation, a 75 GHz generator is developed to get both pulse trains and sinusoidal signals. Electronic MMW amplifier in high power photonic MMW emitter is replaced by using a unitraveling carrier (UTC) photodiode. The UTC photodiode output power generated by a narrow pulse train is higher than that generated by sinusoidal signals under the same average optical power condition, which contributes to reducing the photocurrent of the photonic emitter. The proposed photonic transmitter can be applied to the optical gigabit Ethernet signals in the wireless link system.
