Summary form only given. Recently, we demonstrated continuous frequency tuning of a single-longitudinal mode mid-infrared optical parametric oscillator (OPO). We are using the 3-/spl mu/m-wavelength idler of our device for cavity ring-down laser absorption spectroscopy (CRDLAS) of organic gases in air including methane. The singly resonant OPO is a ring resonator for the signal beam (1.5-1.6 /spl mu/m wavelength) consisting of three mirrors, a periodically-poled lithium niobate (PPLN) crystal, and an intracavity air-space etalon.
