The air traffic control system is quickly becoming overwhelmed by the need for improved services and higher data rates. The necessary increase in system capacity requires that a new multiple-access technique be employed. A possible solution to this problem is code-division multiple access (CDMA). The application of CDMA to the air traffic system closely parallels the cellular phone industry's use of CDMA. However, due to the high mobility of the users in the air traffic system, a different receiver structure could significantly improve performance. In this paper we examine multiple-access interference suppression techniques of CDMA systems for air traffic.
