We consider the downlink communication of a point-to-point mm-wave massive multiple-input multiple-output hybrid beamforming (HB) system in which the transmitter is free from in-phase and quadrature-phase (IQ) imbalance whereas the receiver is IQ-impaired. We show that, irrespective of the design of the hybrid precoder/combiner, the receiver IQ imbalance (Rx-IQI) limits the spectral efficiency (SE) of HB systems at high signal-to-noise ratio. To solve this problem, we propose a novel Rx-IQI compensation scheme which completely mitigates the effects of Rx-IQI in HB systems. Analysis and simulations confirm the effectiveness of our Rx-IQI compensation scheme.
