Aiming at the problem of two-dimensional direction of arrival (2D-DOA) estimation of frequency hopping (FH) signals, this paper proposes a 2D-DOA estimation algorithm for FH signals based on improved reduced dimension MUSIC (IRD-MUSIC). Firstly, the receiving model of the uniform array antenna array is established, and the array snapshot data model of frequency hopping signal is established. Secondly, the effective hop of signal is extracted from time and frequency domain and the spatial-time-frequency distribution matrix of this hop is established. Finally, transforming the two-dimensional DOA estimation problem into the two stage one dimensional DOA estimation problems by using the quadratic optimization method. At the same time, the polynomial roots are used to instead of the peak search method to reduce the complexity of the proposed algorithm. Theoretical analysis and simulation results show that the proposed algorithm greatly reduces the calculation time under the condition of guaranteeing the estimated performance.
