A new type of highly birefringent polyethylene rectangular lattice photonic crystal fiber (RLPCF) was investigated. This PCF can operate at single-polarization single-mode (SPSM). By changing the structure parameters of the RLPCF, the mode index of the two linearly polarized principal states can be designed. Results show that the PCF has higher birefringence than regular RLPCF. Furthermore, the polyethylene material that is transparent to terahertz wave is inexpensive and easy to operate. This PCF is an effective component for some THz systems..
