An ultrahigh accuracy distance meter with a simple setup and high reliability for a practical measurement is developed using a broad and stable femtosecond frequency comb. This device is fabricated to overcome the problem of cyclic error that originates from the electric and optical crosstalks. Since the femtosecond-comb distance meter (FCDM) does not require an external modulator, the setup is simple and thus the cyclic error is significantly suppressed. In this study, a world-record 2-/spl mu/m uncertainty in the FCDM is achieved.
