The need for low cost and compact design solutions for radar surveillance comes from customer requirements where performances in terms of radar coverage are not the key features. In many operational environment, while keeping the Safety constraints, the airport surveillance and final approach can be obtained through an innovative product for civil air traffic control. The SSR interrogations can be used as primary source of data by using their reflected RF energy like a standard Primary Radar application. The result is a new compact radar, keeping main advantages of ICAO standard compliance, and representing a good solution where detection range is not a key point.
