This paper presents a hybrid thermal model which can be used for the predesign of permanent magnet synchronous machines. This hybrid model consists of a direct coupling between two lumped parameter thermal networks (stator and rotor) and an analytical solution in the air-gap region. A flat linear permanent magnet machine and a radial field one are investigated in this study. All results will be compared to those obtained with finite elements method.
