A single-pass broad area amplifier 600/spl mu/m wide by 1.1 rnm long emitted 3.3 W CW in a diffraction-limited beam 0.08/spl deg/ wide. Current-dependent lensing within the amplifier is characterized and compensated with a simple cylindrical lens.
