The design hourly traffic volume is an important basis for determining highway indicators in the design stage. The selection of the design hourly traffic volume coefficient will directly affect the traffic conditions and comprehensive economic benefits of the highway. Therefore, it is particularly important to choose an appropriate hourly traffic volume for the planning, design and operation analysis of transportation facilities. Based on the observed traffic volume of a highway in the Yangtze River Delta, this paper analyzes the relationship between the design hourly traffic volume and the annual traffic volume, and obtains the design hourly traffic coefficient of the highway, which is then compared with the current specifications, providing a reference for the reconstruction and expansion of similar projects or the subsequent revision of specifications.
