Optical high speed transmission is limited by the effects of PMD. Electrical equalization principles are entering more and more the field of PMD-mitigation techniques. Within these mitigators there is the group of adaptive electrical filters, with the drawback of a time-consuming adaption process. Several efficient step-size control algorithms are implemented, which accelerate the adaption-process significantly, making the adaption up to ten times faster. These algorithms are analyzed and optimized to fit to the requirements of PMD-mitigation in optical DD-OOK systems.
