A multiport power electronic transformer (PET) serves as the energy router (ER) of the next generation DC distribution systems. In this paper, control strategies of a multiport PET for DC distribution applications are proposed. Multiple active bridge (MAB) converters serve as the isolation units. Star and ring connected synchronization and communication methods are used in the PET system. After the introduction of single phase-shift modulation (SPM) and extended phase-shift modulation (EPM) methods of MAB, a softswitching phase-shift modulation (SSPM) method is proposed for ZVS and reduction of current stress. Powers decoupling methods as well as system control strategies are described briefly. Experimental results are given to validate the proposed topologies and strategies.
