Car parking is an essential element for tourist management in tourism industry. The tourist footfall is directly connected to traffic congestion of a tourist destination. The intention of this study is to investigate the need for an effective car parking management system at Nainital in Uttarakhand. The researchers have proposed Internet of Things for the regulation of tourist vehicles at a parking area. The proposed model offers a system of parking reservation to reduce run time hustle faced by the tourists due to the unavailability of a parking slot at the tourist destination. The technology can detect and display the availability of empty slots in each government parking which can be viewed by the tourists prior to their visit. As the tourist checks and reserves a hotel in Nainital, in a similar fashion he can find out the accessibility of car space and make reservation accordingly. It will overall be time saving and will facilitating the tourists a hustle free stay. In the study the researchers have utilized the Raspberry Pi based IoT system to monitor and control the overall process of car parking.
