Communication satellite technologies in Japan have been developed by NASDA in collaboration with other agencies since the first communication satellite CS and the first broadcasting satellite BS were operated. Currently, several commercial communication satellites are in operation and various advanced communication experiments are planned with use of new engineering test satellites. In this paper, some operational and planned Japanese communication satellites, together with an overview of their development.
