The development of systems applications that use Integrated Modular Avionics (IMA) consists of many process steps where different parties are involved. Systems that are based on IMA host their functions on generic modules with a standardised hardware- and software interface and dedicated functions for module management. Especially in case of new aircraft programmes where the IMA platform is developed in parallel to the system functions, a close cooperation between airframer, module- and system-/function supplier is required to ensure an efficient development, certification and integration in the given time frame. In that period a lot tools support the process to cope with the complexity of the different tasks. In the present design- and development process, many of these tools and interfaces are not optimal and are prone to errors due to misinterpretation or inefficient re-use of data. This often leads to a high work-load finding the root-cause of an error that could be as simple as a typo in the specification of an interface. In this work, the results of collaborative project between airframer, module- and function suppliers towards a seamless tool-chain for IMA design, development and integration is presented. Based on state-of-the-art and newly developed tools the complete process has been investigated and methods have been developed to improve the present situation.
