Ensuring safety at railway gate crossings is critical to preventing accidents. This paper presents an innovative system utilizing Infrared (IR) and Passive Infrared (PIR) sensors to enhance safety and automate gate operations at railway crossings. The system monitors trains approaching the crossing from the main station using IR sensors placed every 100 meters along the track. These sensors provide real-time data on the train's location and speed, allowing continuous monitoring and accurate detection of train movements. Additionally, PIR sensors are employed at the crossing gates to detect obstructions or movements, ensuring the gates close only when the tracks are clear. This dual-sensor approach increases the system's reliability, minimizing false positives and ensuring precise gate operation. The integration of IR and PIR sensors creates a comprehensive solution for effective monitoring and management of railway gate crossings. Real-time data from the sensors automates gate operations and provides timely alerts to vehicles and pedestrians, significantly improving safety and preventing accidents. This paper details the design, implementation, and testing of the proposed system, demonstrating its effectiveness in enhancing railway crossing safety. The results show a substantial reduction in accident risk and an overall improvement in the safety and efficiency of railway operations.
