A new all-optical architecture for fringe-adjusted joint transform correlation using a photorefractive crystal is proposed. The proposed is very fast because it generates the correlation output in one step while eliminating the intermediate Fourier plane processing required by alternate techniques. This also avoids the problems introduced by the nonlinearities associated with the CCD array used for recording the joint power spectrum.
