The renewable energy sources (RESs) have become essential part of the modern grid. The numerous benefits of the RESs are helping for better grid reliability, stabilization, and flexibility. Advancement of power electronics devices and control algorithms encouraging the penetration level of the RESs to increase day by day. However, low inertia systems are still not capable to take care of the voltage and frequency of a system. As per IEEE 1547, after the tripping of the central generator/source, all the connected distributed generators (DGs) in a particular network should be immediately disconnected from point of common coupling. In this work, tri-layered neural network (TLNN) has been used to detect the islanding situations in a solar-wind DG based micro-grid. It has been seen that the method is giving promising results for the islanding detection and method is scalable too.
