With the continuous upgrading of automotive technology, the application of intelligent connected vehicles has become increasingly widespread, and Over-the-Air (OTA) technology has become an indispensable part of the vehicle industry. OTA technology has brought many benefits to vehicles, but at the same time, it has brought tremendous challenges to the security of vehicles. Based on the security requirements of the in-vehicle CAN bus and the technical characteristics of OTA updates for vehicles, this article proposes an OTA-oriented protocol for security protection to ensure the security of data transmission among ECUs during the OTA process. We built an experimental platform using the STM32F407 development board from Punctual Atom company to develop and test the proposed OTA-oriented protocol for security protection. Experimental results demonstrate that the proposed OTA-oriented protocol for security protection possesses high security, real-time performance, and scalability, which can provide strong support for the development of automotive OTA technology.
