This paper deals with a design and implementation of optical defensive device for protection of aviation personnel such as pilots. The design is built on the basic characteristics of human eyesight, analysis of possibly usable light sources, their control and implementation, and limited power. Light emitting diode (LED) technology is implemented with constant current regulators and driven by a microprocessor, which also controls several modes. Experimental results demonstrate the effectiveness of the optical dazzler design.
