The international aviation community has shared information since the first trans-oceanic flight occurred. As more aircraft made the voyage, more information was needed to ensure safe passage. Today, the data shared and the means for sharing that data is somewhat robust and adequately reliable. However, with the advent of new technologies and advances in data sharing concepts, the international community can leverage those advances to improve safety and service. The FAA has initiated a program called Mini Global, and has reached out to international ANSPs, Airlines, and industry to participate. This paper details the first milestone associated with Mini Global, the Risk Mitigation Demonstration (RMD). The RMD was structured to establish the initial Mini Global Enterprise, connect the FAA's Florida NextGen Test Bed, and establish connections with international ANSPs. Once connections were established, use cases were executed to demonstrate the international exchange of information based on established standards for flight, weather, and aeronautical information. Although issues were identified, the results of the RMD showed that the standards can meet global data exchange challenges. Since the RMD, the Mini Global team has expanded international participation, developed more robust data sharing, and added a European Enterprise Messaging Service. With the infrastructure in place, more international partners can be added, more complex use cases demonstrated, and more data can be captured and analyzed.
