We experimentally investigate the transmission performance of a carrier-reuse WDM passive optical network, where downstream data is modulated on the optical subcarrier. Two different optical network unit (ONU) structures based on injection locked and directly modulated FP-LDs are studied. The results show that the effect of the residual data carried on the reused optical carrier can be suppressed effectively by injection locking of FP-LD with proper operating conditions.
