There has, of late, been increased concern over the extent to which the national critical infrastructure of many developed countries is dependent on the Global Positioning System (GPS), and the susceptibility of all Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) to atmospheric disturbance and manmade accidental and deliberate jamming. A number of organizations, including the Royal Academy of Engineering have advocated taking early action to lessen the impact of GPS denial, including establishing backup radio systems for precise positioning and timing.
