This paper contrasts and compares the relevant International Maritime Organization recommendations with the current rules and standards in China on handling, keeping and storage of dangerous goods containers in port areas. The requirements of direct transport, short-term keeping and segregation of different dangerous goods containers are analyzed. The revised recommendations on the safety rules for handling and storage of dangerous goods container in port are proposed.
