Cylinder deactivation in diesel engine is proposed in the industry, where under part load condition engine cylinders will be deactivated, leading to less fuel consumption, losses and less emission. But the main bottle neck for such deactivation process is excitation of mechanical systems which affects the reliability of sensitive mechanical components. Hence the investigation of cylinder deactivation condition with components modelled with sufficient accuracy will be beneficial for the design of the system. The diesel engine generator system can be simplified as a 7 inertia-6 stiffness system. The mechanical driveline system subjected to engine cylinder deactivation have torsional stresses developed between individual components. An electrical control solution is developed to alleviate torsional stresses. The proposed solution damps the torsional oscillation and hence improves the reliability of the system under engine transients.
