Summary form only given. We report the first demonstration of dispersion control using the direct space-to-time (DST) pulse shaper. It is well known that dispersion can be controlled in the FT pulse shaper by varying the longitudinal position of one of the gratings; this is the basis of the pulse stretcher commonly used for chirped pulse amplification. As we show a different recipe is needed for dispersion control in the DST shaper.
