Arrayed waveguide gratings (AWGs) for measuring static and dynamic fields have emerged from the development of wavelength division multiplexed systems, which require multiplexers and demultiplexers to combine signals from several sources over a single fibre. In this paper, we discuss the issues relating to the interrogation of fibre Bragg grating sensors using an arrayed waveguide grating.
