With the continuous development of China's economy and society, the traffic operation of expressway has undergone significant changes, making it difficult for safety facilities including traffic signs, traffic markings, and guardrails to meet the current traffic operation requirements. At the same time, the Ministry of Transport and the Ministry of Public Security issued the “Action Plan for Refined Improvement of Highway Safety Facilities and Traffic Order Management” jointly, which requires expressway to enhance their safety protection capabilities and provide scientific and standardized information guidance in April 2022. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of expressway safety facilities scientifically and refine the improvement of expressway safety facilities. Introduce risk assessment model to analyze the risks of expressway accidents based on the traffic operating conditions, design indicators and current status of safety facilities, determine the risk levels of each section of the expressway, conduct high-risk cause analysis, and determine the refinement and improvement methods of expressway safety facilities based on the risk assessment results. Taking a certain expressway as an example, a study on the refinement improvement method of safety facilities based on risk assessment models was conducted, and suggestions for refinement improvement of key road sections were provided, which can provide reference for the refinement improvement of safety facilities on other expressway, finally.
