Linear frequency modulation (LFM) waveforms for Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) signals are easy to generate and forward analysis. Unfortunately, the range sidelobe based on using LFM returns low image qualities, especially in case of imaging large radar cross-section objects. This paper demonstrates a good sidelobe reduction technique to have a high resolution in range direction, while maintaining the advantages of LFM. The proposed technique exploits the complementary sequences for coding the phase of LFM waveform. This technique completely removes the waveform autocorrelation sidelobes around the main lobe area. Simulation results are presented to demonstrate the validity of the proposed SAR scheme image formation algorithm.
