The Intelligent Access Program (IAP) provides heavy vehicles with improved access to the Australian road network by utilization of GPS technology to remotely monitor heavy vehicles against access conditions imposed on them by Jurisdictions. The paper provides a background to this program and describes the IAP system architecture including data flow, the electronic data interchange model and work flows of associated with the definition of access conditions and the use of a common map dataset.
