In this paper, an intelligent relaying scheme is proposed for fault detection and classification in a shunt compensated network connecting with offshore wind farm. The traditional distance relaying fails to protect such line due to the issue of shunt compensation as well as the variation of wind speed in DFIG wind farm. The proposed technique is based on fast discrete S-transform supported fuzzy rule established relaying approach to protect such shunt compensated transmission network with wind farm and also it overcomes the challenges of traditional distance relaying scheme. The presented technique is investigated on a 500 kV, 350 km long STATCOM compensated line connected with DFIG based wind farm simulated through MATLAB/Simulink platform for several circumstances of power system. The proposed technique has less computational burden as it needs hardly three phase current information from relaying location. The proposed technique is a fast and genuine protection approach for shunt compensated network connected to wind farm.
