A single-mode optical fiber is a promising candidate for a practical third-order nonlinear optical device. This talk focuses on fiber nonlinearity and its applications to all-optical signal processing. The device applications include super-continuum generation using self phase modulation (SPM), a nonlinear-optical loop mirror (NOLM) switch using XPM, and four wave mixing (FWM) devices.
