In the current era of AI and advanced computing technology, a change from manual driving to vehicle automation is approaching. One of the key benefit that autonomous vehicle can potentially offer is improving the traffic in cities. Numerous studies with simulation models have provided evidence to back up the claim, however, other studies have also pointed out the limitations of low level AV penetration. This essay has reviewed and summarized the key results from credible researches with an emphasize on the potential negative impact on traffic brought by the present low level of AV adoption.
