The challenge of carrier recovery for digitally phase modulated, suppressed-carrier signals has been the target of much attention in mobile radio system design for many years. In this paper, a new open-loop all-digital carrier recovery method for multiple phase shift keying (MPSK) which is based on random data modulation is presented. This method uses fast Fourier transform (FFT) along with peak detection to estimate frequency offset and uses Kalman filter to track phase. Its complexity is very low, and it is also easily implemented with digital hardware. The simulation results show that the estimator using this method achieves good performance under the condition of large frequency offset and low signal noise ratio (SNR).
