A compact 1284-1330-nm, 20-GHz, 9-ps fiber ring laser based on a semiconductor amplifier and a Mach-Zehnder amplitude modulator is realized. Following Raman amplification, second-harmonic generation to the red was achieved in a PPKTP waveguide.
